An Americana double header with the return of Joel Sires' subtle, sublime trio and the deep, rowdy country of The Bird Hunters!
Sat 10/7 7pm - $7/$10 all ages
Taking their name from a Turnpike Troubadours song, The Bird Hunters draws a lot of influence from bands like Turnpike, who weave heartfelt lyrics and deeper-meaning songwriting into foot-stomping, rowdy country music for the party crowd. The Bird Hunters are unwilling to trade shallow lyrics for a good time and true honest songwriting is always at the center of the music they make.
The Bird Hunters claim the genre “Midwest Country” drawing influence from the radio they grew up listening to and the stories they’ve been told their whole lives. Iowa is known for its non-regional diction so you won’t find any fake accents but the twang is well represented in their telecasters and the rhythms are made for two-stepping.
Principal songwriter and vocalist Ethridge Netz (Cory Waller & The Wicked Things, Ronley King Band) is joined by producer and bassist Blake Van Houten (Golden Bear Records), Chris Hansen (Brad & Kate, Maddie Poppe, Iowa Master Angler) on drums, and Trevor Hill on pedal steel and auxiliary instruments.

Music has held great importance to Joel his entire life. His exposure to playing music began early. Guitar circles and singalongs were not uncommon at family gatherings.
He has distinct memories of the soundtrack he curated for some of life's most defining moments - like a first crush. With a Walkman in hand, he reserved a certain song for a special girl, waiting to press play until she walked through the classroom door. DJing school dances was something he became skilled at quickly because he recognized at a young age the connection music had to creating a mood and defining experiences for people.
Joel has found a lot of fulfillment through music over the years and loves songs so much that finding the drive to make music rarely waivers. To put it simply - he adores words and has always tried to find a way to share them with others.
From the very start of his musical journey Joel Sires has been a song chaser. Sires’ work has run the gamut from psych pop to glam rock, and power pop to singer songwriter folk. His latest work features hushed tones and acoustic guitars, breaking new ground by bringing the volume down and pushing the song and lyrics to the forefront.
Joel has grown into a proficient songwriter, guitarist, producer, and performer. He is even known to throw in a little harmonica here and there.
He lives in the country with his wife, two dogs, and three chickens.
If you like the following musicians, you will probably like Joel:
Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Kris Kristofferson, John Prine, Brother Trucker, Steve Earle, WILCO, Big Star
